Job Profile Summary The Logistics Planner is position is responsible for managing and performing work across multiple supply chain sub-families. The Logistics Planner is chiefly responsible for implementing the optimal delivery process for both inbound and outbound freight. To do so requires addressing capacity issues at the receiving location including current operational efficiencies, customer inventory planning requirements, cargo planning and a general understanding of the current business goals. This role communicates and negotiates with vendors regarding delivery details and also supports the development and implementation of strategies to further optimize the supply chain process by analyzing current distribution processes. The Logistics Planner also prepares logistics reports for senior decision-makers.

Position Purpose:
The Logistics Planner is position is responsible for managing and performing work across multiple supply chain sub-families. The Logistics Planner is chiefly responsible for implementing the optimal delivery process for both inbound and outbound freight. To do so requires addressing capacity issues at the receiving location including current operational efficiencies, customer inventory planning requirements, cargo planning and a general understanding of the current business goals. This role communicates and negotiates with vendors regarding delivery details and also supports the development and implementation of strategies to further optimize the supply chain process by analyzing current distribution processes. The Logistics Planner also prepares logistics reports for senior decision-makers.
Primary Responsibilities:
- The planning, managing and tracking of all inbound (domestic/international), drop shipments and outbound shipments – utilizing the Manhattan Transportation Management System (TMS) system to plan, optimize, and tender freight. This would include the tendering to the carrier, follow up with the carrier, addressing any pickup and/or delivery issues to ensure that purchase orders are delivered at the right time, to the right place, at the most optimal cost, and on spec.
- Communicate with Sales, Customer Service, Procurement and Operations and external stakeholders to resolve issues and share information related to shipments. Includes tracking and tracing of shipments to meet agreed-upon service metrics.
- The review of out of tolerance invoices and approval/rejection of those invoices.
- Follow up on cargo claims
- Negotiate spot rates with carrier partners where necessary to cover volume over-committed capacity per department guidelines.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Business-related disciplines or 4 years related work experience required.
Experience:
- 4 years in logistics, transportation or supply chain or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint is required.
