JOB SUMMARY
This position is created for PRDC operation company (OpCo) that have long-distance routes handled in house. The main function is to manage backhaul opportunities, cross docks and over the road drivers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical, customer relations, and personnel management for major programs and projects
- Building loads and scheduling pick-ups and drivers for backhauls
- Supervising team of Class A drivers, which includes ensuring adequate knowledge of regulations, up to date training, monitoring the performance of driving teams and conducting performance reviews
- Handles all product discrepancy claims including shipping overages, shorts, a damaged and total loss
- Responds to receiving inquiries, communicate feedback from contract carriers and Transportation to Merchandising and vice versa
- Financial review and planning
- This involves monitoring backhaul revenue, load fill, customer pick up and logistics earned income along with preparing reports with analyzed data and recommendations for improvement
- Also responsible for actively seeking new backhaul opportunities with Merchandising and Transportation department
- Handles all product discrepancy claims including shipping overages, shorts, damaged and total loss
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent experience
Experience
1-3 years related experience and/or training required
Skills
Knowledge of Interstate Commerce Law, PC experience is required, 40 wpm, foodservice distribution, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Decision Making Authority
- Most important decisions made fully independently:
- Determines appropriate trucks for backhaul use
- Builds the loads for each truck
- Schedules appointments for outside carriers
- Settles claim issues
- Most important decisions made with review and approval of other individuals or supervisors (include the reviews/approvals required)
- Determining which backhaul opportunities should be used, reviewed with VP Merchandising and Transportation
- Review and approve salary increases, promotions, and terminations with VP Transportation
