Job Profile Summary The Food Safety Technical Services Manager serves as a key member of the Food Safety leadership team. This role is responsible for ensuring the proper implementation and execution of the highly technical FSQA programs across Sysco’s sites, driving the implementation of best practices, monitoring the effectiveness and costs of technical FSQA programs, and ensuring our programs are effectively mitigating the risks they are designed to control.

Job Summary:

The Food Safety Technical Services Manager serves as a key member of the Food Safety leadership team. This position provides technical expertise, leadership, support and instruction to field teams, with a specialized focus on highly technical FSQA programs such as sanitation and environmental monitoring, pest control, food safety interventions, product sampling and testing, quality management processes and other FSQA programs across multiple facilities. 

This role is responsible for ensuring the proper implementation and execution of the highly technical FSQA programs across Sysco’s sites, driving the implementation of best practices, monitoring the effectiveness and costs of technical FSQA programs, and ensuring our programs are effectively mitigating the risks they are designed to control. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as subject matter expert and process leader for highly technical FSQA related processes such as, but not limited to, sanitation and environmental monitoring, pest control, food safety interventions, product sampling and testing, quality management processes and other FSQA programs.

  • Monitor the effectiveness and execution of highly technical FSQA related processes.

  • Collaborate to implement industry best practices, innovation and ensure the continuous improvement of highly technical FSQA related processes.

  • Lead the standardization of highly technical FSQA related processes across business units and geographies.

  • Lead internal and external assessments of highly technical FSQA related processes.

  • Provide support on highly technical FSQA related processes during audits, inspections, and in collaboration with customers. suppliers and other stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with sites to investigate and implement corrective actions related to issues, discrepancies, non-conformances, etc. related to highly technical FSQA related processes.

  • Support investigations related to FSQA technical programs

  • Manage programs and associated documents related to highly technical FSQA related processes.

  • Develop, maintain, and deploy training for highly technical FSQA related processes.

  • Develop, maintain, monitor, and routinely report out on key performance indicators associated with highly technical FSQA related programs and support the remediation of deviations in performance across sites.

  • Function as a cross-trained resource able to fill in temporarily at locations in the absence of the local FSPM or QA staff.

  • Complete other duties and cross-functional assignments as required.

  • Maintain effective working relationships with various internal (e.g. Region Presidents, Vice Presidents of Operations, Food Safety Program Managers, FSQA and Sanitation Technicians, etc.) and external (e.g. sanitation contractors, pest control operators, auditors, regulators, chemical vendors, equipment manufacturers, customers, etc.

  • Monitor over-flow and third-party storage locations for compliance to Sysco’s standards.

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local food safety regulations, as well as company policies.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Environmental Health, or related field preferred. \

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in food production, food service distribution, sanitation leadership, or quality assurance.

  • Pest Control Management knowledge or industry certificate is a plus.

  • Experience with sanitation systems, pest control programs, or third-party sanitation services strongly preferred.

  • Supervisory or cross-functional leadership experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of FDA, USDA, CFIA, GMP, and FSMA requirements

Licenses/Certification:

  • HACCP certification required.

Licenses/Certifications Preferred:

  • PCQI; SQF, BRCGS or other GFSI scheme practitioner, or equivalent certification preferred.

  • Advanced training in sanitation practices and certifications is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multi-site responsibilities.

  • Ability to interpret technical sanitation and pest control data and translate findings into actionable tasks.

  • Comfortable with frequent travel and self-direction in a field-based role.

  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-functional communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Detail-oriented, with strong documentation, tracking, and follow-up capabilities.

  • Engage with associated colleagues to build Sysco’s food safety culture.

Travel Requirement:

  • Up to 75% travel required.
